Singing Pop/Rock for The Musical Theatre
Pop/rock songs are more and more a request for musical theatre auditions and Casting Dir./ Musical Dir. Dave Clemmons has the expertise to guide you towards the correct approach. With a degree in Jazz/Commercial Music from the famed Univ. of Miami School of Music, Dave has gone on to a 20 year live performance and recording career involving pop/rock music while maintaining a performing career in musical theatre. From being a lead singer in pop/rock/country bands in New York, Miami and Nashville to the jingle studios of New York, Memphis and Chicago and numerous recording projects, Dave knows the pop/rock sound and how to impart knowledge of how to create these styles to theatrical singers as it applies to today’s musical theatre auditions and productions.
Pop/Rock classes will take place Monday June 28th from 6-10pm and Tuesday July 6th (pick one night) from 12-4pm at Pearl Studios 500 8th Ave.
The class will involve an intensive period of listening to representative pop/rock and country artists, a discussion/ Q and A on the “pop/rock” technique and how to implement it into your “bag of tricks”. A limited number of participants will sing a pop/rock/country selection and be coached on how to present it a pop/rock style.
This class will also feature a discussion of where to look for the best pop/rock/country songs that work well as theatrical audition pieces as well as a discussion of “overdone” and “not done enough” songs.
If you are looking to understand the world of pop/rock singing or improve your pop/rock auditions, this class is designed to introduce you to this world or take your pop/rock audition to the next level.
